As one of the most important business, trade and entertainment centre, Istanbul hosts innumerate events of regional, European and world range. International Istanbul Music Festival is one of the most prominent events in European classical music schedule. The agenda includes opera, ballet, and classical and traditional music. Over the years it featured the most prominent names in the performing arts sphere, philharmonic and chamber orchestras, ensembles and soloists, dance and ballet performances, and Whirling Dervishes. The concert is held in various venues, sometimes in historical buildings. It runs in July.
Turkish F1 Grand Prix is featured in state-of-the-art Istanbul Park, which has one of the three world anticlockwise tracks, the other two in Brazil and Monaco. It is described as one of the greatest tracks ever built and is highly appreciated by many drivers. The track is located 90 km from the city centre.
Istanbul Contemporary Art Fair is held 28 November - 2 December, attracting artists from all over the country to showcase their works on this popular exhibition and auction. Admirers from Turkey and Europe flock there to assess, purchase and critique the last examples of contemporary art. The fair is hosted by LutfiKýrdar Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Other popular events include International Bosphorus Festival of yacht races and regattas, held in June in various venues along the city's vast coastal line. International Jazz Festival in July occupies various venues and attracts jazz performers from many countries as well as local bands. Akbank Jazz Festival in early October is held in Cemal Resit Rey Concert Hall, Babylon and Venue Maslak.
A good counterpart is Efes Pilsen Blues Festival, running in October - November, in Lütfi Kırdar UKSS, Anadolu Salonu. Istanbul Rock Republic Open Air Festival in July hosts local bands and international ones, including Overkiller, Slayer and In Flames. The festival is held in Sariyer, park and camping area in central Istanbul.
