Istanbul has two major international airports. Atatürk International Airport is located in Yesilkoy, on the European side of the city, 15 km from the centre. It has two terminals, dealing separately with domestic and international traffic. In 2006 more than 21 million passengers passed through it. The airport is a modern, efficient structure, which underwent considerable reconstructions last time, but it still faces capacity issues. It is served by many airlines:

Sabiha Gokcen International airport was built as an auxiliary facility, when Ataturk airport became incapable of handling the increasing passenger and cargo traffic. Some international and domestic flights were redirected here. The airport is located on the Asian side of the city. Its current traffic is about 3 million passengers per year.
It is not very big, but it disposes of with state-of-the art technologies of security, flight control and passenger services. There are VIP lounges, administrative offices, car rental agencies.
